Fishing at Cigale (Cikat), island of Lošinj
Cigale (Cikat) is on the island of Lošinj, which is reached by continuing south from the island of Cres; you cross a small bridge in the village of Osor and then land on the island of Lošinj.
A small note on Osor: once Osor was an island of its own; in fact, in the eastern part of the town there was a second channel that was filled in during pre-Roman times with the creation of two ports, Bijar and the southern one that ends in the shallows of Jaz, where the Osor salt pans once stood.
Back to us: Lošinj has two towns of the same name, Mali Lošinj (Little Lošinj) and Veli Lošinj (Great Lošinj); let's not be fooled, because Mali Lošinj is the one that is bigger! In any case, to reach Cigale you have to pass through Mali Lošinj and follow the signs for Cigale (Cikat).
You arrive in a tourist complex located in a bay with very low rocky shores, pebbles and a little sand. The two headlands that border it, on the other hand, have high, jagged cliffs.
Fishing inside the bay, we will find bottoms of 10/12 metres at most, of sand and posidonia. Bibi worms and Rimini worms for gilthead bream and white seabream, even large ones, while strictly live bait for dentex.
Fishing from the headlands, a sinker you can afford to lose is compulsory, because of the rocks on the 25/30 metre bottoms and the chance of hooking big dentex, leerfish and amberjack!! At night the big conger eels, even over 10 kilos, are caught by baiting with sardines, squid, cuttlefish and live fish.
Cigale is exposed to all southern winds, but is well sheltered from the bora. The seafront is comfortable for fishing and well lit, while the headlands are not. It is about 250 km from Italy, and the road is the same one you take to reach the island of Cres.
